Zepbound KwikPen (tirzepatide) is an injectable weight loss drug. It mimics natural GLP-1 and GIP hormones in your gut, helping you control your appetite and making you feel fuller for longer. When paired with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, it may result in effective, healthy weight loss.

Zepbound is an injectable medication that comes in a pre-filled pen. It needs to be used once weekly, on the same day. The pen itself is simple to use and the needles are very small, so it’s relatively pain-free and easy to get used to.

Zepbound can be injected in the abdomen, thigh or back of the upper arm at any time during the day, with or without food. It’s recommended that you use it around the same time each week, as this will regulate the medication’s effectiveness.

Adults who meet the BMI threshold may be eligible for treatment with Zepbound. Eligibility will depend on your individual circumstances and weight-related conditions, and all treatments are subject to review. A licensed provider makes the final clinical determination.

You’ll begin with a low starting dose (2.5 mg once a week) to help your body adjust comfortably. From there your dose may increase gradually over time, but there’s no single “right” pace or target.

Some people find they’re reaching their goals and tolerating treatment well at a lower dose, while others may benefit from stepping up. What matters most is finding the dose that works best for you, to balance comfort, results and your personal health goals.

In 72 weeks, people taking Zepbound 15mg in a clinical study lost an average of 22.5% of their body weight when taken as directed. This means that someone who weighs 220lbs may lose an average of 49.5lbs in 72 weeks (1 year, 5 months). This is an example only. It is not a prediction of individual results.*

When you order Zepbound for the first time, you’ll receive one pen that includes each of your four doses. This is for your first 28 days of treatment. It’s important to store it in a refrigerator between 36-46°F.

You will need to purchase injection supplies separately.

You’ll begin on a low starting dose, taken once a week. From there, you can move up gradually or stay where you feel comfortable. Your provider will review your choice and confirm it’s safe and sustainable for you.

Over time, some people choose to reduce their dose to maintain results or manage side effects.

After every use, dispose of your needle in a sharps bin. After the four doses, and once the needle has been removed, the pen can be disposed of in your household waste or the sharps bin. When full, the contents of your sharps bin should be disposed of according to your local community guidelines. Never dispose of sharps, like needles, in your household waste.

Zepbound can be kept unrefrigerated for up to 30 days. However, we recommend you return the pen to the fridge after each use.

While Zepbound has helped many people reach their health goals, it’s important to understand what to watch for along the way. Below, we’ve outlined the most common and rare side effects, along with guidance on when to seek help.

Very common

These side effects may occur in more than 1 in 10 people and usually go away over time. They are most common when first starting Zepbound and when increasing your dose.

• Examples: feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation.

Common

These side effects may occur in up to 1 in 10 people.

• Examples: dizziness, a reduction in blood pressure, indigestion, heartburn, bloating, burping, flatulence, fatigue, injection site reactions (redness, swelling), gallstones, allergic reaction (e.g, rash, itching, and eczema), low blood pressure, hair loss.

Uncommon

These side effects may occur in up to 1 in 100 people.

• Examples: Injection site pain, changed sense of taste, increased heart rate.
• SERIOUS: acute pancreatitis. This is inflammation of the pancreas that can cause severe stomach pain which can radiate to your back that doesn’t go away. Most patients feel very ill with pancreatitis and may present with severe vomiting (i.e., vomiting 3 times or more in one day, or having coffee ground or blood in the vomit). You should call 911 or attend ER right away if you experience these symptoms.
• SERIOUS: acute gallbladder disease. This is inflammation of the gallbladder (also known as cholecystitis) that can cause a sudden sharp pain in the upper right side of your stomach that radiates towards your right shoulder. The affected area of the stomach will feel very tender and deep breathing can make the pain worse. You should call 911 or attend ER right away if you experience these symptoms.

Rare

These side effects may occur in up to 1 in 1000 people.

• SERIOUS: severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). This can present as difficulty breathing, swelling of lips, tongue and/or throat, difficulty swallowing, rapid heartbeat. You should call 911 or go to the ER right away if you experience these symptoms.

GLP-1 medications also carry an FDA black box warning for risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, and should not be used by patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2).
